SC Barcode Scanner - Tutorial and Features

Nowadays a barcode can be found everywhere. That's why Seattle Clouds developers created a new page type: Barcode Scanner.

With this feature in your application, people can scan any desired barcode and find the information about scanned product from an international barcode database.

To insert the scanner in the app, you can just select the “Barcode Scanner” page type from Page Type Resource Manager.

**NOTE: No further action required for QR Scanner page.

Features:

Barcode Scanner uses Phone or Multimedia Device primary camera as scanner. It works without any problems on low resolution camera devices, such as iPod.

Tap SCAN button to begin the scan.

Just look to fit the Barcode into your screen and scanner will automatically find the code.

Tap CLEAR button to clear the list of scanned codes.

Has this been addressed yet so that this scanner can point to another API, database, or wherever, like previously asked? This scanner is almost useless since it pulls very generic data, but the ability to use it to scan a UPC code and then pass that along to a private database would be much more useful. Is there anyway to edit the code once this scanner has been added so that this can be accomplished?

When it pulls up the item it seems to have no function like showing the price or where to buy the item or anything on my app. Is this true? WHat are the example functions that would be helpful to end user? Thanks

Hi,

If the price is not registered in database it will not appear.

End user can have the numeric code of the product stored into application.

Thanks,
Aurel
Hi Aurel,
How can an end user a numeric code of a product stored into the application?

Could one use a database that this "points" to? So when the item is scanned something happens? For example, this would be great in our school cafeteria for scanning student's ID card barcodes. The app would scan the student's card and it would log it on the native "Notes" app or send it to a website of one's choice...
Yes. Something like that would be useful. Otherwise, I don't see much practical use for this feature (though I do appreciate the effort).

Hi everybody

I am new to this service, and I was wondering if it is possible to have a barcode read and entered within a form? can this be done with Seattleclouds? if not, how can this be done (special coding? native?)

Thanks

Hi,

Can I use this function to scan a 2d or QR code and that then it populates in the app the info store in the data base behind that code. For example I scan a QR code from a perfume price tag or box and then in the app I can get a pic of that item together with some specs of the item (again, assuming there is a data base behind the code already storing this info)

Thanks a lot
