Continue down the street from the Scanlon Monument until you see the  Golf Hotel,directly across the road is the Bunker bar, this was the home of the Shortis family in Ballybunion.

Patrick Shortis was one of the sons of William Shortis R.I.P Ballybunion. Born on the 4th of July 1892.Patrick Shortis was educated in Killarney.

Patrick Shortis spent many years as a civil servant in London.Shortis became active in the volunteer movement and in 1916 he fought for Irelands Independance in the GPO Dublin.

On Friday night of easter week 1916 Patrick Shortis joined The O Rahilly in the assault on the barricade at Moor Street and was shot by crown forces and died next to his friend The O’ Rahilly of Ballylongford.

A plague on the front wall of the Bunker bar Ballybunion marks the birth place of Patrick Shortis in 1892.
