Newsstand application launched together with iOS 5.0 is designed to provide a comfortable interface to all your digital periodicals. If any of your applications designed at SeattleClouds classify as periodicals, you might want to consider enabling your app for Newsstand.

First things first, please note that once Newsstand feature was enabled for an app, it can not be disabled, so think twice before doing this as there is no undo available.

From the point of view of development and design there are no actual restrictions to technical or graphical approaches, Newsstand logically indicates that the app is periodically updated with content on a particular topic or topics.

To enable an app designed at SeattleClouds for Newsstand go to its Dashboard → Newsstand Properties and check the Enable for Newsstand checkbox. On the same page provide a Newsstand icons. When ready save the changes.

Newsstand requires Apple Push Notification (APN) service to be enabled in your app (how to enable APN service). Also, you need to think ahead of what files you are going to update while preparing a new issue of your magazine or newspaper and enable synchronization for those files in the Resource Manger. This will be needed when you publish a new issue as there is no need to upload it to iTunes Connect because everything can be done by sending a push notification, but please note that any Newsstand application requires at least one In-App Purchase. If your app is free you might want to choose a Free Subscription In-App Purchase type.

To publish a new issue of your periodical in the Newsstand, go to app's Dashboard → Newsstand Content Publishing. A simple press of the Publish New Content button will send all of the synced files to user’s devices in a form of a new issue of your periodical.

Our company has been trying to fix an issue with news stand for a few days now and have been unable to receive support to fix it. I put titles under icons in newsstand now the icons are not where they should be. We've been trying to with margins, line height, padding etc... but nothing has worked. Does anyone know how to fix this for certain? We need to fix ASAP. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Not sure I understand the publish new issue function. I make my app. Then a month later I go into the App and change the articles to this month's articles, then publish new content?

I know what MagCast does. They make a pdf of the issue and push it thru. So I am thinking make an iPad app. Main page is the pdf Reader, then push the next issue as a pdf. Not familiar with it at all so it feels like a strange way to do it.
Have you seen Magcast inside? Have you seen their admin panel for creating apps?
Thanks

Yes, I have and I was wrong. They make a PDF, then turn it into HTML then push it .

I made a newsstand app. Now I want to publish issue number 2. What do I do? Do I make a new app? Add pages to the original app? If I have a new issue with completely new articles, how do I sync the files?
Thanks

Hello Brandon,

Any app can be enabled for the Newsstand, simply check the respective checkbox at your iOS app’s Dashboard → Newsstand Properties → Enable for Newsstand.

That’s all there is to it.
