The Facebook Fan page asks you to indicate your "Fan Page ID".  Where is the "Fan Page ID"?  With the help of Andrew, I was able to find out.

First, if you'd like to create a Fan Page, click this link.

Second, after creating a fan page, upon visiting this page, the URL will display both the fan page name and ID:

Example: facebook.com/pages/Mr-Electric-of-Central-Indiana/137409539635096

It is the number portion of the page that is the "Fan Page ID" to use on the App page: facebook.com/pages/Mr-Electric-of-Central-Indiana/137409539635096

You can test the usability of the ID by visiting https://graph.facebook.com/putidhere

If it works, you'll received a code similar to:

02   "id": "137409539635096",
03   "name": "Mr. Electric of Central Indiana",
06   "category": "Local business",
07   "website": "www.mrelectric.com",
08   "location": {
09      "street": "P.O. Box 446",
10      "city": "Plainfield",
11      "state": "IN",
12      "country": "United States",
13      "zip": "46168"
14   },
15   "phone": "(317) 838-3000",
16   "likes": 142

If it fails, something similar to this should appear:

2   "error": {
3      "type": "OAuthException",
4      "message": "(#803) Some of the aliases you requested do not exist: mr-electric-of-central-indiana"
5   }

Below you may find some additional information on how to operate with the Facebook Fan Page type and how to share it.

Once you add a Facebook fan page type to your app, you need to access your app's dashboard. Then go to Application Settings, there you need to fill in the Facebook App API Key and the Facebook App Secret.

As soon as your app is approved and published on AppStore, you need to go to your app's dashboard again at SC and access AppStore Proprieties link. Copy and paste the link to your published app at AppStore to the "Share link" input field and then save the changes.

Thank you,

What is the API Key and Facebook App secret and where do I find this information?

In order to get the API Key, first you need to go to developers.facebook.com/apps. There, you need to create the app to get both the Facebook API key and Facebook App Secret.

For more detailed instructions upon how to get the API Key you may try checking through the web. As an example: http://www.joomlabyte.com/how-to-get-facebook-api-key.html

Thank you,

Hi Georgia,

1. Login to your (personal) FB account (not your Fan Page!)
2. After login go to http://www.facebook.com/developers/
3. Click upper rightcorner "+ Create new app"
4. Put a name for your new application
5. Click Agree with terms, then click on Create Application button
6. You’ll be taken to the next page where you can find your Facebook API key, Secret and other stuff

I have some questions about the Facebook fan page.
Is it possible to change the design/style of the fan page in my app?
And why do I need a the API Key and Facebook App secret (i dont know what use it does, isn't it enough with just a fan page?

thank you,
^^ Because they said so. That's why.
Christian, Tone this is not a limitation from our side.

I'm trying to create a business directory and would like to add facebook and email sharing for each business in the directory - ie on each businesses page I would like users to be able to share that individual business (or "page") to facebook and google +.

Is this possible?

Thanks - Paul
Paul - did you ever find any way to do this? I've wanted to do the same thing.

The facebook fan page, the 'api key 'column, do we need the api of our own facebook or the api from the creator of that fanpage's api key ? Say the fan page is belong to others, we just want to link to it, since giving just the fanpage username didnt work, how to get that fanpage's api ? Thanks

As far as I know you can not have a facebook fan page into your app if you're not the owner of that page.

I have done all as above but I get an error on your test app on my phone when I try to login
   "error": {
      "message": "Error validating application. Invalid application ID.",
      "type": "OAuthException",
      "code": 101
I tested it at https://graph.facebook.com/with my id number and it returned the correct code. Just an error on the phone app

I had the exact same thing happen to me.
